5 Ways To Save Time & Money With Google Voice

Google just recently started opening up Google Voice to the general public. I got my invite about a month ago and it is amazingly useful. What is it? Well, read on as I describe 5 ways for you to save time and money while using it. You’ll get a grasp of what Google Voice is, does and why it is so useful.
Save Time & Money: Who needs to hire a secretary when you can screen calls using Groups? You can even set Google Voice to ask unknown callers to give their name before you decide to answer their call. Annoying Telemarketers getting you down? Aggressive Bill Collectors making you uncomfortable? Creepy person won’t stop calling you? Block them with Google Voice. You can either send them straight to voicemail without ringing your phone, or send them to a message that says “this number has been disconnected.”
Save Money: Cancel or downgrade your cell phone’s Text Messaging plan and use Google Voice instead. AT&T charges $20.00 a month for unlimited text messages. If you don’t buy a text message plan, AT&T charges you $0.20 per text message sent and received. If you have a smart phone, like an iPhone or a Blackberry, you don’t need to have text messages delivered to you instantly. Google Voice has mobile applications so that you can check and send text messages on your phone without it counting against your provider’s plan. Also, if you don’t have a smart phone but have mobile internet access, Google Voice has a pretty decent mobile web page that allows you to do the same thing.
Save Time: Forget about ever again having to tell your contacts that your number has changed: Google Voice numbers are for life. Moving? Doesn’t matter where in the US you move to, your Google Voice number can forward to any phone in the United States.
Save Money: Do you have voicemail, caller-id and/or call-waiting on your landline? With Google Voice, you don’t need that voicemail plan for your home phone. Google Voice takes your messages. Not only that, Google Voice will even transcribe your voicemails and send it to you in an email so you don’t have to listen if you don’t want to. You also won’t need that call-waiting feature on your home phone anymore, because Google Voice will take a message if someone calls while you’re on the line. And, if you group all your contacts properly and screen your calls like we talked about above, you can even cancel your home phone’s caller ID plan.
Save Money: How much are you paying for long distance? Google Voice allows you to call anywhere in the United States and Canada for FREE. Have relatives overseas? Google Voice has excellent international rates for calling other countries. You can call the United Kingdom for $0.02 per minute. You can call most of Mexico for $0.08 per minute and Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara for $0.02 per minute. You can call just about every country in the world at discounted rates using Google Voice.
Notice: right now, Google Voice is still in an invite-only beta. You can go to the Google Voice website and sign up to be put on a list to be randomly selected for the beta. I know of several people that signed up for the list a couple of weeks ago and already got their invites, so give it a try and have patience!
