The WGA Strike: Setting the Record Straight

The AMPTP (people the Writers are striking against) placed a full page ad in Variety to set the record straight:
Setting the Record Straight…As the WGA knows and its own records will attest, writers are paid residuals on permanent digital downloads.
As the WGA knows and its own records will attest, writers are paid residuals on pay-per-view digital downloads.
This additional compensation was part of the more than $260,000,000 in record-breaking residuals paid to WGAW members in 2006.
When the WGA went on strike, an offer to pay writers for internet streaming was on the table.
See, Steven, there are two sides to every story.
Sounds to me like the WGA is a red-headed-step-child.
UPDATE: Membership of the WGAW (WGA west): 7,627. $260,000,000 divided by 7,627 (total membership) equals $34,089.00 in residuals alone! That means that on average, writers are getting more than $30,000.00 for work they previously did. That doesn’t include work they did that year. Since these are residuals, it’s income for doing nothing.
